Yes, you read it correctly, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Ms. Jacinda Ardern announced on Tuesday that the country will shut down after reporting one case of Covid-19. Ardern had a press conference when she announced the shocking news to her nation, adding that the reason behind the sudden lockdown was due to suspicion that the Covid case is a contagious Delta variant, although the labs have still not yet determined that is so.

The Covid case is a 58-year-old man, that has not been vaccinated, and comes from Auckland, which is Nea Zealand’s largest city. It has been noted that the man had traveled to multiple parts of the country and there is a high chance that he may have transmitted the virus.

The lockdown will start from 11:59 p.m.(local time) on Tuesday and will continue for the next 3 days, with the level four lockdown which is known to be the most strict. All businesses are closed, except essential stores such as Supermarkets, Pharmacies, and stores with first-hand necessities. Everyone is strictly forced to stay home and not leave for the next 3 days, other than to shop for what they need.

The Prime Minister also announced that the areas where the Covid patient traveled to will most likely stay on the strict lockdown for a week.
